Don’t get stranded with a dead battery!
Most people have had the experience of a dead battery. The downtime is not only inconvenient but can be costly and dangerous depending on where it happens, and your access to backup power. With a Samlex BGW Battery Voltage Protector you no longer have to worry about draining your battery. The voltage monitor will alert you if the voltage falls below critical level and the battery protector will automatically disconnect at the programmed low voltage setting. This ensures you’ll have enough energy to start your vehicle and recharge your battery with the alternator.
What is a battery voltage protector and why do we need it?
Batteries are expensive and discharging them below the manufacturer specs will severely reduce their life. A battery voltage protector, also known as a battery guard or low voltage disconnect, is a device designed to protect the health of a battery. It is particularly useful for maintaining the performance and longevity of starter batteries in service trucks, public safety vehicles, RVs and boats that have radios, lights or critical electronics that are consistently on in the vehicle, and subsequently draining the battery.
The Samlex America BGW Battery Voltage Protector offers several key features. It acts as a low-voltage disconnect, constantly measuring the battery voltage and disconnecting if it falls below a critical level, which can prevent deep discharge and potential damage to the battery.
Here are some of the benefits of the Samlex Battery Voltage Protector:
Extend your run-time of critical electronics
Battery Voltage Protectors also help in extending run-time with load shedding. Use the program settings to disconnect non-critical equipment early, add a second battery protector and program it to disconnect your critical equipment later, extending the backup time on critical ones. For example, in a fire truck or police vehicle you could program the BGW battery protector to drop non-critical equipment such as lights to preserve power to the radio communications.
Low-profile, waterproof design for easy mounting
The new low-profile design of the Battery Voltage Protector series was developed to fit into compact spaces and engine compartments of small to mid-sized recreational and commercial vehicles. The BGW- 40 and BGW- 60 weigh 0.34 lbs and measure 2.8 x 2.4 x 1.3 inches. The BGW-200 weighs 0.65 lbs and measures 2.9 x 4.3 x 1.5 inches.
With an IP66 rating, the rubberized polyurethane construction provides a sealed and rugged casing, capable of handling extreme weather and driving conditions. You can mount the battery voltage protector close to the battery bank in the engine compartment or in any convenient location, regardless of water exposure.
Remote off-switch capability
The BGW Battery Voltage Protector has additional options for a remote off switch and an alarm output for connecting a buzzer, LED strip or relay. The remote switch allows you to disconnect the battery using a switch in your truck, boat or RV without needing access to the battery protector.
User programmable with 10 low voltage disconnect settings
The BGW Series can be programmed to disconnect at 10 different sets of voltages for both 12V and 24V batteries. They also help to prevent damage to connected components and protect against excessive voltage caused by faulty alternators and charges. The BGW will shut down if the input voltage exceeds the overvoltage threshold of 16 VDC for 0.5 seconds.
40A, 60A and 200 amp battery voltage protector options
The BGW Series is available in 40A, 60A or 200 amps, depending on what size inverter or electronics you’re using, we can recommend the right battery guard for your electrical system.
Battery Voltage Protectors protect components, maintain battery life and save on replacement costs
Overall, a battery voltage protector like the Samlex America BGW-200 is essential for maintaining the health and performance of batteries, preventing deep discharge, and ensuring you always have a reliable power supply for your critical loads.
When you are out boondocking in your RV, you won’t have to worry about having enough power to slide-in or slide-out your RV. With the battery voltage protector’s program settings to disconnect non-critical equipment early, critical functions like RV sliding can be prioritized over other non-critical functions like lights, TV, a stereo or USB chargers.
In a service work truck where the operator may be running an air compressor, tools or site lights when the truck is not running, a battery guard is an essential component to protect the batteries from deep discharge and costly downtime.
The battery voltage protector helps protect and maintain battery life thus preventing you from buying or changing your battery too often helping you save on replacements costs.
Overall, a battery voltage protector will help keep the battery in good condition and working efficiently for a longer period of time.
